You've got a friend in me

     "Daughters, daughters, daughters" —
another of God's wonderful plan of placing daughters in families!

For many years, (I don't dare reveal just how many), I have been blessed with two, very special daughters.
What a delight to welcome Karen Joy as Nel's and my first 'bundle of joy'!  Nearly four years later, along came Deborah Lynne, the little sister we were all waiting for.

Recently, I experienced a moment, taking me back in time.

Walking into our guest bedroom early one morning, what did my surprised eyes see, but those same two daughters, sitting side-by-side in bed, sharing conversation over a good book, as they had done together so many times in those earlier years.
Only this time, here they were, all grown-up, with their favourite morning coffee cup in hand, and still seeming to be revelling in that sister camaraderie of times past.

It had been a special treat to have both daughters free to spend a whole weekend with me, as each of their husbands needed to be out-of-town.

Over the years, as Nels and I watched our daughters become such beautiful and accomplished women, our hearts often swelled with joy and gratefulness to our Heavenly Father, who had become a big part of their lives, as well as ours.
Now, sitting on my patio with both my daughters, we enjoy playing the board game, Ticket To Ride
Together, we watch the full moon make its nightly appearance in such peaceful grandeur.

"It was then, that I suddenly realized, that somewhere, somehow, one day... we had become friends!"

This story did not end, however, with the weekend. Little did I know, the following week would see me in much discomfort, with a painful neck and other complications, requiring necessary help from my willing friends — my loving daughters.

Continuing throughout this winter season of my life without my life's partner by my side, has not been easy.

"Realizing, that my two loving daughters and my two loving sons, will, without a doubt, carry out their father's last reminder, 'Make sure you look after your mom,' gives me great peace."

Nels, you would be so proud!

"God knew, when He gave me each of you, how He would use you to encourage me to finish my journey well."

Daughters

Daughter is a lovely word that always brings to mind, memories

of the happiest and very warmest kind.

Thoughts of you bring memories, for, through each passing year,

You've been the kind of daughters who are especially sweet and

dear.

If you could read my heart, then you would surely see,

With every day that passes by,

You mean still more to me.

  1. Hey Mom,

Thanks for the memories . . . and for all the things you put up with . . . before we became friends. Your blogging reflections are lovely reminders of what really is important in the too often busy rush of life. Write on!
