The Great Physician

Just a little over four weeks since my operation and already it seems like a dream. Did I really have those experiences?

A peek at the scars decorating my abdomen — and the answer is a strong, "Yes!"

I continue to thank and praise my Heavenly Father who has been the Great Physician alongside my surgeon Dr. Baliski.

I am amazed as I consider all that has transpired these last few months. God's timing is always perfect. He saw to it that my operation happened at just the right time.

Any later, the results could have been very different. The colonic tumour mass was described as an invasive adenocarcinoma type cancer, highly aggressive, meaning fast-growing.

A prompting from my daughter Debi — in late November, to tell my doctor of my tiredness — was the beginning of my cancer journey.

He then, discovered my hemoglobin was very low.

During the months of waiting, at one point it dropped to a low of 70. This week I was informed it has now reached 104, and so my energy level is improving.

Another blessing and answer to prayer is, that 46 lymph nodes surrounding the tumour were dissected, and showed no evidence of metastatic disease. Because of this, Dr. Baliski found no reason to suggest a follow-up with chemotherapy or radiation. What a relief to hear that!

During my weeks of waiting, anticipating my operation, my hospital stay, and now, throughout the healing process, I have had a calm and restful spirit as I reminded myself of whose child I am.

"He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, 'He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.'"

— Psalm 91:1-2

Today, as I attended a seniors' luncheon, the following poem was used in their program. It reminded me of the verse Ecclesiastes 3:1.

"To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under the heavens."

Just think, "You're here not by chance, but by God's choosing. His hand formed you and made you the person you are. He compares you to no one else — you are one of a kind. You lack nothing that His grace can't give you. He has allowed you to be here at this time in history to fulfill His special purpose for this generation."

Continuing on my life's journey, I am looking forward to finding that special purpose He has already in mind for me.
