Our T.V. and newspapers are presently filled with headlines such as: "Crisis in Syria... Negotiations resume for peaceful solutions."
As we view some of the unimaginable atrocities being carried out on our fellow men, right before our eyes, we find it incomprehensible to see how anyone could be so desperately evil and inhumane, without trembling in fear of the great Creator of human life.
Some may say,
"Why doesn't God intervene to make the killing stop?"
Think about it. If He did that, He would be violating His own moral standard, robbing the government there and the rebel leaders of their own free will.
When God created humans, he gave each one the freedom to choose — the very quality that makes us human. That means we must always suffer the consequences of our actions. I'm sure the world is praying for a peaceful solution.
Meanwhile, God is still on his throne, and in his time will bring about the new heaven and new earth, as promised. We must have a fearless trust through these uncertain times.
"God is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble. Therefore, we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the sea..."
— Psalm 46:1-2
Recently, I came across this awesome story that amazingly portrays how our Heavenly Father wants to protect and care for us, his children.
God's Wings
After a forest fire in Yellowstone National Park, forest rangers began their trek up a mountain to assess the inferno's damage. One ranger found a bird literally petrified in ashes, perched statuesquely on the ground at the base of a tree. Sickened by the eerie sight, he gently struck the bird with a stick. Three tiny chicks scurried from under their dead mother's wings. The loving mother keenly aware of impending disaster, had carried her offspring to the base of the tree and had gathered them under her wings, instinctively knowing that the toxic smoke would rise. She could have flown to safety but had refused to abandon her babies.
Then, the blaze had arrived and the heat had scorched her small body, but the mother had remained steadfast. Because she had been willing to die, those under the cover of her wings would live.
"He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge."
— Psalm 91:4
There is another unspoken message within this story I ask you to find for yourself, meditate over, and possibly apply to your own life.
