Happy Canada Day! "Our Home and native Land" — I am indeed, proud and grateful to live in my own native land — Canada.
As we celebrate our national heritage on this, another Canada Day, we pause and reflect on how privileged we are to live in this beautiful country of mountains, lakes and forests.
We remember those who fought for the freedom and preservation of our homeland, making it the country it is today. We are blessed with the freedom to choose who will govern us, to have freedom of speech, freedom of worship and a freedom to stand for what is right and to oppose what is wrong. May it ever be so, as each of us do our part to "stand on guard" for our great nation.
The beaver is the icon that has come to represent Canada, as the eagle does the United States and the lion, Great Britain.
Someone has dared to label the beaver as "a flat-tailed, slow-witted, toothy rodent known to bite off its testicles or to stand under its own falling
trees. OUCH!! We will each find our own way to celebrate this, our 146th year — becoming our great Canada on July 1, 1867.
And, as a huge red and white Canadian flag, so distinctively ours, proudly flies in the breeze over our city at one of our local malls, (and in many other places throughout our land) may it remind us all to ask God's continued blessing on our great nation and our home called — Canada!
