"Make memories that will bring smiles and sighs whenever you look back."
We often hear comments relating to an experience causing us to feel a tug on our heart strings, or having a heartache when someone we love is gone.
Does the heart feel emotion, or does the brain simply make it seem as though it does?
Does the heart actually have a memory or is it the brain that stores the memories? Researchers tell us, cells which hold memory and feeling, find their way to the brain for storage, but beforehand, they pass throughout the body including the heart.
Does a portion of the memories and feelings first get deposited into the heart and perhaps, some remain there? Scientists are continually trying to understand the miracle of the human body and how it works.
We have been miraculously put together by the Great Designer
"... For You created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful..."
— Psalm 139: 13-14
What we do know is..."Matters of the heart, live on." The love and memories we have stored there, can be replayed and somehow the moments relived. Having been blessed with Nels as my life's companion for over 55 years, and now, as his birthday comes round once again, I cannot but reflect on who I am today because of his influence on my life.
"Nels began his life as a shy, country boy, ending up as a gregarious, warm-hearted man who, loved God with all his heart, soul and mind, and his neighbour as himself."
— Beulah Eagles
He viewed life through the eyes of gratitude, holding fast to his ideals and values, thus being a solid example to those who knew him. His unique spontaneity and love of fun, truly made him "one of a kind".
So, Although you've passed from this world
And left my world in sorrow,
I know that I must go on
And face this life tomorrow. Just when I think I'm content
And well upon my way,
To dealing with your loss
Along comes your birthday.
Memories of birthdays past
Hold my heart at bay.
I will find solace once again,
Until your next birthday.
